725Comprehensive Evaluation of BloodFor a complete list of CPT code(s), refer to the Hematopathology Test List.Examination of peripheral blood smear is a powerful diagnostic tool. It provides rapid, reliable access to information about a variety of hematologic disorders. The smear offers a window into the functional status of the bone marrow. It is particularly important when assessing cytopenic and cytoproliferative states. Review of the smear is an important adjunct to other clinical data; in some cases, the peripheral smear alone is sufficient to establish a diagnosis.HistologyHematopathology
700Comprehensive Evaluation of Bone MarrowFor a complete list of CPT code(s), refer to the Hematopathology Test List.Bone marrow examination is useful in diagnosing and staging of hematologic disease, as well as assessing overall bone marrow cellularity. Due to ease of accessibility, aspiration, and biopsy, a bone marrow examination can also assist in the diagnosis of various storage and infiltrative disorders. ProPath’s Comprehensive Evaluation includes all the necessary testing to render a complete hematopathologic diagnosis on the patient’s blood and/or bone marrow and/or tissue specimen.Hematopathology

22540Constitutional Chromosome Analysis, Blood Cytogenetics88230, 88262
To rule out mosaicism, add 88263.
Chromosome analysis of blood is used for a wide variety of indications including mental retardation, failure to thrive, Down syndrome, delayed puberty, or primary amenorrhea (Turner syndrome), frequent miscarriages, infertility, multiple congenital anomalies, and sex determination.  Chromosome analysis is performed using standard cytogenetic techniques. When emergency cytogenetic evaluation of a critically malformed neonate is needed, a blood specimen for fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) may be submitted to rule out aneuploidy of sex chromosomes, and chromosomes 13, 18, and 21.cytogenetics, karyotypeFISH and Cytogenetics
775Constitutional Chromosome Analysis, Solid Tissue88233, 88262, 88291.
To rule out mosaicism, add 88263.
Chromosome analysis of solid tissues is performed using standard cytogenetic techniques on any viable solid tissue, including skin and products of conception (POC). Analysis of skin fibroblasts may be indicated when the results from peripheral blood are inconclusive or in clinical circumstances such as suspected cases of chromosome mosaicism and some dermatological disorders. Chromosomal analysis of POC is performed to rule out abnormalities resulting in malformed fetuses, spontaneous abortions, or neonatal deaths. Chromosome studies of POC may provide useful information concerning the cause of miscarriage and, thus, the recurrence risk for pregnancy loss and the risk for having subsequent children with chromosome anomalies.POCPOC, cytogenetics, karyotypeFISH and Cytogenetics

700Peripheral Blood Smear Evaluation85060Examination of a peripheral blood smear provides rapid and reliable access to information about a variety of hematologic disorders. The smear offers a window into the functional status of the bone marrow. It is particularly important when assessing cytopenic and cytoproliferative states. Review of the smear is an important adjunct to other clinical data; in some cases, the peripheral smear alone is sufficient to establish a diagnosis.HistologyHistology

Thyroid cascade starts with TSH.
If TSH is low or high, Free T4 is triggered.
If TSH is low and FT4 is low, Free T3 is triggered.
If TSH is low and FT4 is normal, Free T3 is triggered.
If TSH is high and FT4 is low, TPO (thyroid peroxidase antibody) is triggered.
If TSH is high and FT4 is normal, TPO (thyroid peroxidase antibody) is triggered.

CoVTotAbSARS-CoV-2 Total Antibodies86769The ADVIA Centaur SARS-CoV-2 Total Antibody assay detects total antibodies (combined IgM/IgG) from blood specimens that are generated as part of the adaptive human immune response to the COVID-19 virus indicating recent or prior infection. Studies have shown this assay to have a sensitivity of 100% and a specificity of 99.8%. Thus the PPV (positive predictive value) at 5% prevalence is 96.5% and the NPV (negative predictive value) at 5% prevalence is 100%.
  • It is unknown currently if a positive immune response is protective against future infections.
  • The absence of antibodies does not exclude COVID-19 exposure or infection as it can take up to 2 weeks for antibodies to develop post exposure or symptoms.
  • This assay should not be used to diagnose or exclude acute infection.
  • See also Healthcare Providers Fact Sheet and Recipients Fact Sheet.
