Grey Top Sodium fluoride - whole blood (4); alternately SST/Gold Top (4)
Specimen Collection
  1. Label Grey Top tubes with two identifiers. Acceptable identifiers include patient’s name, date of birth, social security number, requisition number, and medical record number.
    Label the 4 tubes as “F”, “1”, “2”, and “3”.
  2. Draw a fasting sample in tube F. Indicate collection time.
  3. Give the patient a 100 g-dose of glucola.
  4. Draw the 1-hr sample in tube 1, one hour after the patient finishes drinking the glucola. Indicate collection time.
  5. Draw the 2-hr sample in tube 2, two hours after the patient finishes drinking the glucola. Indicate collection time.
  6. Draw the 3-hr sample in tube 3, three hours after the patient finishes drinking the glucola. Indicate collection time.
Storage Requirements
Refrigerated.
Specimens are stable if if stored at room temperature for 7 days or refrigerated for 7 days.
