Grey Top Sodium fluoride - whole blood (4); alternately SST/Gold Top (4)
Specimen Collection
- Label Grey Top tubes with two identifiers. Acceptable identifiers include patient’s name, date of birth, social security number, requisition number, and medical record number.
Label the 4 tubes as “F”, “1”, “2”, and “3”. - Draw a fasting sample in tube F. Indicate collection time.
- Give the patient a 100 g-dose of glucola.
- Draw the 1-hr sample in tube 1, one hour after the patient finishes drinking the glucola. Indicate collection time.
- Draw the 2-hr sample in tube 2, two hours after the patient finishes drinking the glucola. Indicate collection time.
- Draw the 3-hr sample in tube 3, three hours after the patient finishes drinking the glucola. Indicate collection time.
Storage Requirements
Refrigerated.
Specimens are stable if if stored at room temperature for 7 days or refrigerated for 7 days.
