SPECIMEN REQUIREMENTS
Specimen Requirements
  • EDTA whole blood -OR-
  • 2 thick and 2 thin blood smears, labeled with patient’s full name, and another identifier, e.g., date of birth, medical record number
Supplies for Submission
  • Lavender Top (1) -OR-
  • Glass slides
Specimen Collection

If blood parasite is identified, confirmation will be performed at an additional charge.

  • Submit a minimum of 1.0 mL whole blood, to be received by ProPath on the same day as the day of collection. -OR-
  • Submit 2 thick blood smears and 2 thin blood smears.
Storage Requirements
Room Temperature.
Specimens are stable if stored at room temperature for 1 day.
Causes for Rejections
Frozen specimens or clotted specimens are not accepted.
